Sunny Home Rebuild in Washington, IL

The Felixes lost their home in the November 2013 Washington, IL tornado. Our design-and-build team worked with them to design a compact family friendly home that perfectly fits their needs.

Approaching from the road, visitors notice a brick emblazoned with “Washington Strong” in the front column at the new Felix home. Peoria Brick Company donated these special commemorative bricks to tornado victims. A sunny yellow door trimmed in white perfectly sets off the gray siding. Inside, this 1500 square foot home feels spacious because of its open concept design. The main level consists of a master bedroom, two bathrooms, guest room, mudroom and laundry, kitchen, and family room. The couple’s craft room and wood shop occupy the basement.

Engineered hardwood flooring spans the family room and kitchen. A corner fireplace features mosaic tile and a custom mantle constructed by our carpenters. Our design team chose a greige paint for the walls, a mix of modern, cool gray with the warmth of beige. White trim punctuates the walls for a crisp finish.

At the back of the home, the owners chose a non-traditional sink and dishwasher in the island. Quartz countertops gleam atop white ShowPlace solid wood cabinets. The owner used pieces of his grandfather’s dresser, which was damaged in the tornado, to create a one-of-a-kind light fixture above the island.

Sliding glass doors let in light and showcase the outdoor entertainment area and patio. Cedar lattice provides privacy from the main road for the back of the house. The white synthetic recycled composite railing material holds its color and is virtually maintenance-free.

The family loves spending time with their children and grandchildren in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. Felix say, “We are so thankful for the hard work all of you put into build our new home! From twisting the insurance adjuster’s arm, to designing, selecting materials… and all the finish work, we have a beautiful home we are proud to show off. We love being home!”

Mr. and Mrs. Burks wanted a more open concept kitchen to enjoy with family and friends. Mrs. Burks also asked if we could work in some additional countertop surface area. The C.T. Gabbert design team was up for the challenge!

The new kitchen features a streamlined design to maximize space while looking beautiful and modern. Better use of space makes more room for living, with new storage solutions and clean lines.

The extended countertop transitions into the dining room and makes the most of the space in this galley kitchen. The gorgeous countertop is HD Formica! Beautiful grouted luxury vinyl tile complements the ShowPlace solid maple cabinets. The countertop creates a new area for the family to gather, eat breakfast, and watch TV. The subway tile backsplash highlights the great room and kitchen with a subtle “Nautilus” color tone that add a little pop. The carefully chosen color scheme blends perfectly into the existing home and feels like it belongs.

The happy owners love their new kitchen after working with Peoria’s finest wall knocker-outer! See photos of the project in our Kitchens photo gallery under Breakfast Bar Kitchen.
