Ready for a Spring Remodel?

Now’s the perfect time to start planning your spring remodeling projects — refresh your home with inspiring new ideas and upgrades!

Here are 5 spring home remodeling ideas to help you freshen up your space for the new season:

  1. Deck Design for Spring Vibes

Give your outdoor space a fresh new look! Adding or upgrading a deck not only enhances your home’s value but also creates the perfect spot for relaxing, entertaining, or hosting family gatherings. Consider built-in seating, lighting, or a pergola to make the space feel cozy and ready for those warm spring nights.

2. Let the Sun In

Spring is the perfect time to brighten up your home! Consider adding a sunroom or enlarging your windows to let in more natural light. C.T. Gabbert can help you design and build a bright, cozy space that blends the indoors with the beauty of spring. Adding skylights or glass patio doors can also help open up your home and make it feel more connected to the outdoors.

3. Refresh with Natural Paint Colors

Sometimes, a simple coat of paint can completely transform your home. Choose earthy tones like soft greens, warm whites, or muted beige to bring calm and warmth into your space. Pair your new wall colors with upgraded flooring to enhance your home’s overall look and feel. For an extra touch, add texture through accent walls, natural wood trims, or stone details to bring your spring design to life.

4. Create a Spa-Inspired Bathroom

Bring the relaxing spa experience home this spring! Light paint colors, open layouts, and mirrors can make your bathroom feel bright and rejuvenating. Add natural textures or plants to complete that refreshing spring vibe. Heated floors or rainfall showerheads can also be great upgrades to create a calming, spa-like retreat right in your own home.

5. Smart Storage Solutions
Spring cleaning starts with organization! Transform underused areas of your home into functional storage spaces. Smart cabinetry, built-in shelving, and hidden storage can help reduce clutter while adding style and convenience to your remodel. Even simple upgrades, such as pull-out drawers or pantry organizers, can make everyday living more efficient and stress-free.

Fall Remodeling Projects to Prepare Your Home for the Season!

Fall Remodeling Projects to Prepare Your Home for the Season

As the leaves begin to change and temperatures drop, fall becomes the perfect time to tackle those remodeling projects you’ve been putting off. Whether you’re preparing your home for holiday guests, improving energy efficiency, or simply craving a cozier atmosphere, autumn is ideal for renovations that make your home more comfortable, beautiful, and functional.

Here are some of the best remodeling projects to consider this fall:

1. Kitchen Upgrades Before the Holidays

Fall means holiday gatherings, comfort food, and spending more time indoors — especially in the kitchen. If your kitchen feels outdated or cramped, a fall remodel can bring it back to life just in time for entertaining.

Top fall kitchen upgrades:

  • Install energy-efficient appliances
  • Update countertops and backsplashes
  • Improve storage with new cabinets or a pantry upgrade
  • Add a cozy kitchen nook or breakfast bar

2. Window Replacements to Boost Efficiency

Old, drafty windows can significantly increase your energy bills as temperatures drop. Replacing them in the fall helps keep your home warmer and more efficient before winter hits.

Benefits of fall window replacement:

  • Lower energy bills
  • Improved insulation
  • Enhanced curb appeal
  • Increased home value

3. Exterior Repairs Before Winter Weather

Fall is your last chance to address any exterior issues before snow, ice, and freezing temperatures set in. A quick check of your home’s exterior now can save you from expensive damage later.

Fall exterior projects to prioritize:

  • Roof inspections and repairs
  • Siding replacement or painting
  • Gutter cleaning or replacement
  • Deck repair and sealing

4. Basement Finishing for Extra Living Space

As the days get shorter and families spend more time indoors, finished basements become highly valuable. They’re great for movie nights, guest rooms, home gyms, or even offices.

Why finish your basement in fall?

  • Add usable space before winter
  • Increase home resale value
  • Create a cozy retreat during colder months

5. Mudroom and Entryway Makeovers

With wet boots, falling leaves, and chilly air, a well-designed entryway or mudroom becomes essential in fall. Keep your home clean and organized by creating a practical (and stylish) transition space.

Features to include:

  • Built-in benches and hooks
  • Durable flooring
  • Storage cubbies for shoes and coats
  • Weatherproof doors and insulation

Bonus Tip: Plan Ahead for Spring Projects
Fall is also a great time to start planning bigger projects for spring — like additions, whole-home remodels, or major landscaping changes. Contractors tend to book up fast, so getting a head start on designs, permits, and scheduling now can save time and money down the road.

Ready to Get Started?

Fall remodeling can make a big difference in your comfort, efficiency, and home value. Whether you’re dreaming of a modern kitchen, a warm new set of windows, or just need to button up the exterior for winter, now is the time to act.

    Energy- Efficient Home Upgrades

When it comes to saving energy at home, many people think about appliances or insulation. However, design choices like paint colors, windows, and flooring also play an important role. The materials and finishes you choose can affect how much heat your home absorbs or loses, which directly impacts your comfort and energy bills. Here is how these everyday choices can make your home more energy efficient.

    • Paint colors:

Choosing the right paint colors for your home can actually affect your energy bills. Light colors such as white, beige, or pale shades reflect the sun’s heat away from your house, which helps reduce the amount of heat absorbed by your walls and roof. This, in turn, lowers your energy consumption.

In warmer climates, it’s recommended to use lighter colors on exterior walls and roofs. On the other hand, darker colors—like deep reds or blacks—absorb more heat from the sun. This heat transfers inside, making your home warmer and increasing energy use during hot weather.

    What should you do?
Keep a balance with your color choices. In warmer weather, lighter paint colors are the best option. In colder climates, darker colors can be beneficial since they help retain warmth.

    High performance windows:

Upgrading from single-pane to double-pane windows greatly improves energy efficiency, enhances comfort, and reduces outside noise, making it a valuable investment for homeowners. Single-pane windows provide limited efficiency compared to double windows, which can be up to twice as effective. For noise reduction, switching to double-pane offers significant improvement. Double-pane windows also provide better insulation and help maintain a more consistent indoor temperature.

Did you know that the type of flooring you choose can affect your energy bills? Carpeting is an excellent insulator that helps keep your home warm in the winter. Wood also has natural insulating properties and is an eco-friendly option. Even laminate flooring is considered energy efficient, especially when paired with radiant heating, which regulates temperature and can help lower your energy costs. When homeowners remodel and add new flooring, the choice often depends on many factors, but if energy efficiency is a priority, the right flooring can make a big difference.

Essential Home Features for the Back-to-School Season

As the school season kicks into high gear, keeping your home organized, functional, and inviting can make all the difference. From smart storage solutions to cozy study spaces, these ideas will help your family stay on track while making everyday life easier. Here are 4 remodels or additions you might need to make your back-to-school routine smoother and more enjoyable. Whether it’s a mudroom makeover, a kitchen upgrade, or a fun entertainment space, these projects can transform your home into a place where organization meets comfort.

    1. Mudrooms can be a lifesaver once the school year starts. They are perfect for more than just coats and shoes. With cubbies and hooks, you can create a spot for bags, sports gear, lunch boxes, and other school essentials, making mornings and afternoons run more smoothly. No more tripping over clutter or wondering where everything went.

If papers, projects, and school supplies tend to pile up in your home, consider giving your child a dedicated study area. Simple additions like bins, drawers, or a small desk keep homework and books organized and in one place. This not only reduces stress for parents but also helps kids develop responsibility and focus.

    2. Long Island: Make busy mornings a breeze with smart storage solutions designed to keep your kitchen organized and efficient. Containers, water bottles, and lunch essentials can quickly take over countertops, especially during the school season when every minute counts. By adding dedicated storage, such as pull-out shelves, drawer organizers, or labeled bins, you can ensure that everything has its place and is easy to grab on the go.

In smaller kitchens, the morning rush often feels even more hectic as family members compete for counter space. A well-planned breakfast bar or built-in coffee station creates a designated area for quick, stress-free breakfasts. It not only frees up the main cooking area but also provides a comfortable spot to enjoy a morning routine. Whether it’s a smoothie, a cup of coffee, or a simple grab-and-go meal, having a dedicated setup makes mornings flow more smoothly and helps start the day on the right note.

    3. Bookshelves: If books always seem to end up scattered on the floor, piled on the kitchen counter, or tucked into random corners of the house, it may be time to add dedicated bookshelves. Having a specific place to store your children’s books not only keeps your home neat and organized but also creates an environment that encourages them to read more often. When books are easy to see and easy to reach, kids are more likely to grab one and spend time reading.

Bookshelves can also be personalized to fit your family’s needs. Adding labeled bins or colorful baskets makes it simple to separate books by subject, age, or even by each child. This not only helps with organization but also makes reading feel like an engaging and fun part of daily life. To take it a step further, consider creating a small reading nook nearby with a cozy chair, soft pillows, or a rug. This transforms the space into an inviting corner where your children can relax, focus, and enjoy their books. A well-designed bookshelf area blends function with comfort, bringing order to your home while inspiring a lifelong love of reading.

    4. Basement for Entertainment: A fun, inviting basement can be the perfect place to bond with your family after a long and overwhelming week. Whether you want a space to play games, watch movies, or create a home theater experience, the basement offers endless possibilities. With the right design, it can become a cozy retreat where everyone can relax, laugh, and make lasting memories together.

With the right upgrades, your home can be ready for whatever the school year brings. These small changes make a big difference in keeping your family organized, happy, and stress-free. At C.T. Gabbert Remodeling & Construction, we specialize in creating functional spaces that fit your lifestyle, from custom storage solutions to family-friendly additions. Let us help you design a home that works as hard as you do during the busy school season.

    Introduction

In 1978, Chuck Gabbert had a vision—a vision that began not in a corporate office or a high-rise building, but in the basement of his family home. With little more than a strong work ethic, determination, and a deep belief in doing things the right way, he laid the first bricks (literally and figuratively) of what would become a cornerstone of quality construction in the Peoria area.
