Kari Gabbert Earns CAPS Certification

Congratulations to Kari Gabbert for earning her Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)!

Peoria, July 21st, 2025 – Kari Gabbert, of C.T. Gabbert, is now one of the select group of professionals nationwide to earn the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation, identifying her as a remodeling professional with the skills and knowledge necessary to remodel or modify a home to meet the unique needs of the older population, disabled owners or their visitors.

The National Association of Home Builders, in partnership with the AARP and NAHB Research Center, created the CAPS program, which includes training and education on the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to compete in the fastest-growing segment of the residential remodeling industry — home modifications for aging-in-place.

What is CAPS?

The CAPS designation is a nationally recognized credential for professionals who have undergone rigorous training to design and modify homes enabling individuals—particularly older adults and others with mobility or health challenges—to live safely and independently in their homes as they age. CAPS professionals are equipped with the expertise to:

  • Improve universal access
  • Eliminate or reduce hazards
  • Customize solutions to maximize comfort, safety, and independence

Why Kari’s Achievement Matters

  • A Nationally Recognized Standard
CAPS holders represent a highly select group of professionals who meet strict criteria and stay current with best practices in aging-in-place design.
  • Enhancing Comfort & Independence
From strategic grab-bar placements to step-free shower installations and optimized layouts, Kari now brings added peace of mind to clients seeking functional and stylish living spaces suited to their evolving needs.
  • A Proactive, Holistic Approach
Aging in place isn’t just about mobility—it touches upon emotional well-being and dignity. Kari’s training empowers her to create homes that are not only safe but also respectful of personal preferences and lifestyle.

Spotlight: Kari’s Transformation Journey

Kari’s pursuit of CAPS certification highlights her commitment to:

  • Ongoing Professional Development: Clinching the designation required hands-on training and passing a rigorous national exam.
  • Community-Centered Values: She can now better serve families facing transitions due to age, disability, or changing health needs.
  • Empathy-Driven Solutions: This designation embodies Kari’s mission of creating spaces that preserve independence while fostering comfort.

Blog 1: Introduction

In 1978, Chuck Gabbert had a vision—a vision that began not in a corporate office or a high-rise building, but in the basement of his family home. With little more than a strong work ethic, determination, and a deep belief in doing things the right way, he laid the first bricks (literally and figuratively) of what would become a cornerstone of quality construction in the Peoria area.

What started as a one-man operation has grown into a thriving family-owned business now spanning 13,000 square feet in Peoria’s historic Warehouse District. The same values that guided Chuck in the early days—craftsmanship, integrity, and treating every client like family—remain the heart of our company today.

Over the decades, our business has evolved with the times. We’ve embraced new technologies, sustainable building practices, and modern design trends, all while honoring the timeless craftsmanship that built our reputation. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to excellence and our deep roots in the community.

From residential remodels to commercial projects, every job we take on is a reflection of our family’s name—and that’s something we take seriously. Walk into our office and you’ll see family members working side by side, collaborating on projects that build more than just structures—they build trust.
